I already have a short sale designation. Why do I need this course?
I already have a short sale designation. Why do I need this course? As of summer of 2009, the rules of the game have changed. The new Making Home Affordable Program mandates a new loss mitigation process, establishes new rules and guidelines and requires new standardized paperwork. It changes when and how Short Sales can be done. Your previous training will be a great foundation of information, but you must now be knowledgeable about Making Home Affordable in order to have success with Short Sales. If you haven't already taken the Quick Quiz on the website, check it out. It will give you some clues on a few of the changes.
Is this a designation course?
No. Finish the course successfully and you will be awarded a Short Sale Achievement Certificate which you can use to promote yourself as a professional who has had training in the Making Home Affordable program and the Mortgage Debt Relief Act. Unlike a designation, there is no ongoing membership requirement following completion of the CAP Short Sale Success course.
How long is the Short Sale Success course?
The online course is designed to be completed in about four hours. It contains a tremendous amount of information and for real estate professionals who have no background in Short Sales, it may take a bit longer.
Does the online course count for continuing education (CE) credit?
Not at this time; however, we are working on getting CE credit for the online course. Our special two-day live event in Houston (TX), October 7-8, 2009 qualifies for 15 hours of CE credit for Texas licensees.
Once I have registered, how long do I have to complete the course?
You can take as long as 12 months to complete the course.
After I have completed the course, can I come back and review the material?
Yes. You'll have full access to the online course and resources for 12 months. The workbook and other resources will continue to be available to you as downloads during this period and they will be updated as required. You'll want to check periodically for new forms and other resources. Our CAP blog will also provide you with news, information, and updates.
What additional fees or expenses can I expect?
None. There are no membership dues or additional fees or expenses.
Do I need short sale experience before taking this course?
No. Our Short Sale Success course will give you the information and resources you need to do Short Sales successfully under the new rules of the Making Home Affordable program.
What is the Center for Asset Preservation?
The ILHM Center for Asset Preservation (CAP) is an organization dedicated to helping solve the foreclosure crisis threatening American families by offering the training real estate professionals need to provide homeowners with the information and brokerage services necessary to avoid foreclosure and minimize tax liability and credit damage. CAP is a division of The Institute for Luxury Home Marketing (ILHM). ILHM's mission is to help real estate professionals provide quality service to the buyers and sellers of luxury homes, and in so doing, maximize their own success. In developing Short Sale training for our members, we realized that this training could help more homeowners in distress (and contribute to the housing market's recovery) if we offered it to all Realtors.
Does the training cover the luxury market segment?
The training is relevant across all price ranges. There is a free bonus module covering the special aspects of dealing with luxury market Short Sales.
Does completing the CAP training make me a member of The Institute for Luxury Home Marketing?
No. Although affiliated with The Institute, CAP is not a membership organization. When you complete the CAP Short Sale Success training, you earn a CAP Short Sale Achievement Certificate.
